What is Kutty Phonics?

Kutty Phonics (കുട്ടി ഫോണിക്സ്) is an English phonics app made for Malayali children in Kerala and around the world. It teaches the 48 sounds of English, from s, a, t, p all the way to magic e, in 128 short levels across 8 Kerala worlds. Each sound comes with a Malayalam sound bridge, picture words with their Malayalam meanings, letter tracing and a game. It works offline, shows no ads and collects no data.

How it helps your child

Starts from Malayalam

Every English sound is linked to the Malayalam letter that sounds closest: sh is ഷ്, ee is ഈ. Children learn the new from what they already know.

Fixes the sounds Kerala English mixes up

Fish Sort practises the pairs Malayali learners confuse: short i and long ee (ship and sheep), a and e, sh and ch, short vowels and magic e.

Short, daily and playful

A level takes three to five minutes. Today's challenge, festival seasons and sticker prizes bring children back each day.

A lesson in six steps

Every new sound is taught the same way, so children always know what comes next.

  1. Hear the sound and say it together
  2. See how to make it with the mouth
  3. Cross the Malayalam sound bridge
  4. Meet picture words with their Malayalam meanings
  5. Trace the letter with a finger
  6. A quick check, then a game
